FAQ’s

We've tried to answer the most common questions we receive on birding and visiting Honduras. However, if there's something we haven't covered and you want more information, we are happy to help at [email protected].  Just let us know, and thank you!   What is included in the tour fee? All lodging, transportation, guided birding, meals, soft drinks, taxes and gratuities are all covered in the tour price.  We ask that you are responsible for items of a personal nature such as; laundry, alcoholic beverages, gifts, and other items of a personal nature.   If the tour is sold out, can I get on a waiting list? If you are interested and find that the tour is full, contact us at [email protected] and ask that your name be added to the waitlist. No deposit is necessary. If a participant cancels, you will be contacted and offered the option to join the tour. You are under no obligation to accept the space.   Is it possible to get a single room? If you would like a single room we are happy to oblige at no extra cost.  As well, if you are a single and would like to be placed with a travel/roommate, let us know and we will do our best to make this possible   Could there be changes in tour dates or leaders? All schedules and tour leaders have been decided 18 months in advance. While changes in day tours and/or leaders could be necessary (for weather or other reasons), we will do everything possible to ensure that tours operate with the leaders, dates, and times we have listed.   How are teams organized? We are organizing teams on a first come, first serve basis.  If you would like to be on a certain tour leader’s team, let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to ensure your spot.   Is tipping included in the tour fee? As noted above, gratuities are included in the price of this tour. However, if you feel that any one along the way has been exceptional (drivers, guides, servers) we encourage your recognition of this.  Please remember that such tips are not expected and are entirely optional.   Is smoking permitted on tours? Tour members are asked to refrain from smoking in vehicles and when in close quarters with the rest of the group.  By Honduran law, smoking is prohibited in hotel rooms, restaurants, bars, and other inside, public areas.   What books would be good to read for my trip? There are several good field guides available for Central America and Honduras.  Please email us for recommendations.   Will there be Internet access? Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in hotel Marina Copan, at The Lodge at Pico Bonito, and at Panacam Lodge. Service is best in lobby/public areas, restaurants and conference rooms.   What is the Time Zone in Honduras? Honduras is on Central Time Zone, and does not follow daylight savings.   Can I arrive early or stay longer? Absolutely yes, and this is a great opportunity to see other areas of this beautiful country or even our Caribbean Bay Islands (Utila, Roatan, or Guanaja).  If you need assistance making arrangements, we are happy to help at [email protected]   Are the birding sites wheelchair accessible? Unfortunately the sites visited on this tour are not wheelchair accessible.   What should I pack? We recommend:  
  1. Sunscreen (preferably waterproof, SPF 15 or above)
  2. Walking Shoes
  3. Long pants in a light material
  4. Cotton shirts
  5. Light rain jacket
  6. Hat
  7. Camera
  8. Shorts
  9. Binoculars
  10. Light daypack for hiking
  11. Mosquito repellent
  12. Bird book
  13. Water bottle
  14. Camera batteries/charger, extra cards.
  Where are the hotels where we will stay? The Lodge at Pico Bonito is located in La Ceiba, Honduras at the foot of Pico Bonito National Park.  It is a 2 ½ hour drive from San Pedro Airport. Panacam Lodge is located within Cerro Azul Meambar National Park, adjacent to Lake Yojoa.  It is a 1 3/4 hour drive from San Pedro Airport. Hotel Marina Copan is located in the Mayan village of Copan Ruinas.  It is a 2 hour drive from San Pedro Airport.   What airlines/airports serve Honduras? San Pedro Sula Airport is served with daily flights via Miami (American Airlines), Atlanta (Delta Airlines), and Houston (United Airlines). Mother Nature smiles on Honduras! Typical conditions for November are: mixed sun/clouds most of the day with the chance of an afternoon or evening shower, with temperatures a little cooler, averaging 80°F (27°C) degrees during the day and 65°F (18°C) at night. Here in Honduras, nature travelers and enthusiasts continue to enjoy the same safety and security that we've known for a long time. Double and single rooms are available.   Can you tell me what immunizations I should take prior to my visit to Honduras? This is an important issue that is best asked of your personal physician, or a medical professional.  Information is also provided by the CDC.  Most travelers to Honduras do not find that they require any prior measures, but this is a personal decision.   Will I need cash on a daily basis, or are credit card OK for small purchases? In and near larger towns, credit cards are accepted.  However it is good to have a small amount of cash in local currency for last-minute purchases or snacks.  This is best obtained at your international airport.  Some Honduras hotels can change dollars for Lempiras (Honduras’ national currency) however this transaction may take a day to complete.   Do I need a passport or other documents? Please make sure your documentation is in order. A passport valid for six months after you return is required for all non-Central American citizens traveling to and from Honduras.   What travel arrangements do I need to make?
